The forest is ready, the clipboards are packed, and the laboratory materials are waiting. 🧪✨ Your kids will get to become forest scientists for the day as we dive into: ☀️ Solar Power Art: Using special light-sensitive solar paper and the Florida sun to capture instant, magical plant shadow silhouettes! 🔍 Botanical Scavenger Hunts: Turning on our “invisible body magnets” to track down secret plants along the trail. 🌱 Get Your Hands Dirty: Every child will get to get their fingers in the soil and plant their very own sunflower to take home and watch grow! 🤫 The Mystery Maker’s Project: Kids will step into the shoes of an apothecary chemist to crush, infuse, and mix a secret, functional outdoor shield remedy they get to bottle up, customize, and take home to use on their next trail adventure! 🎁 Bonus Kitchen Alchemy: We’re also sending families home with exclusive extension guides! ⚠️ MATERIAL NOTICE: To make sure every single child gets their own clipboard, planting pot, spray bottle, and raw science ingredients, registration is closing soon. Less than one week until our Guided Forest Walk and Garden exploration! Have you met the program guides? From holistic nurse herbalist, to occupational therapist, health educator and a lawyer who has turned her land into a sanctuary! Did you know that tortoises experience lasting moods? A study by the University of Lincoln found that Red-footed tortoises living in enriched, stimulating environments actually show signs of being optimistic! When these forest explorers have space to roam and “puzzles” to solve, they approach their world with a “glass half full” attitude. At CommunOT Farm and Programming, we curate these enriched spaces so our animals—and our families—can thrive at nature’s pace. How can you tell if a tortoise is happy and optimistic? -The “Basking Sploot”: Stretching their neck and back legs out completely straight in total relaxation. -Active Problem Solving: Eagerly engaging in enrichment activities (like Mustang is doing here!) to find their favorite snacks. -Nature Detective Spirit: A curious, wandering spirit that is always investigating new items in their path. -Bright, Alert Eyes: Tracking movement and staying engaged with their surroundings. A proud moment! We were doing a little “homework” on our website traffic and found something pretty cool! It turns out CommunOT Farm & Programming is now featured on the @ufphhp University of Florida’s (UF) OTD admissions page! They’ve put together a resource list of places where their current students shadowed before getting accepted into their Doctor of Occupational Therapy program. We are honored to be one of only 9 organizations highlighted for the Central Florida region. We love that students are choosing the farm to get their “diverse observation hours.” It’s such a win for the field of OT to see future therapists valuing nature-based, animal-assisted, and “out-of-the-box” clinical settings. To the students who shadowed here and are now officially Florida Gators, we are so proud to have been a part of your journey! Our programs focus on nurturing development at nature’s pace, and today that meant feeling the unique texture of a tortoise’s shell and learning about their forest habitat.
